About the studio

A small Wellington crew that takes active recreation seriously, but never solemnly.

We started in 2017 with a simple idea: turn the routes locals already love into welcoming, well-organised programs anyone can join. Today we run year-round walking, cycling and paddling sessions across the harbour and the south coast.

Our approach

We design every program around three honest questions: what is the weather doing, what does this group need today, and what will keep this place in good shape for the next visitor? The answers shape the route, the pace and the size of the group.

None of our guides work alone for safety-relevant sessions. Sea kayaking, ridge walks above 200 m and any program with under-16 participants always include a second qualified leader.

Safety first

Current outdoor first aid training and on-water safety experience across our guide team.

Light footprint

Carry-in carry-out everywhere, plus a yearly volunteer day on the coastal trail we love most.

Real people

Small groups, plain language briefings, no hype, no upsells, no surprise costs on the day.

Local first

We hire Wellington-based guides and partner with cafés and gear shops within a 20 km radius.

Milestones

How we grew, year by year

First coastal walking circuits

Two part-time guides, one route between Frank Kitts Park and Point Jerningham, and a hand-drawn map.

Sheltered-bay paddling added

We partnered with a local sea-kayak centre to introduce calm-water sessions for absolute beginners.

Cycle routes & corporate days

The flat Oriental Bay loop opened to small teams looking for a screen-free afternoon together.

Trail-stewardship programme

Quarterly volunteer days with the regional council to maintain the routes we use most often.
